Solvent Extraction Plant, Ghana
A combination of steel and reinforced concrete structure complete with steel roof trusses and aluminium sheet roofing and cladding. The project started in November 2009 and was handed over in May 2010. One major issue was the process of setting out the avalanche of reinforced concrete plinths, apertures and trenches.
The plinths provided support for machinery held down by steel bolts. This meant that holding down bolts had to be cast into exact positions within the concrete plinths with very minimal tolerances. In completing this project, extensive use of coordinates (Northings & Eastings) was employed right from the design stage.
Steel design and fabrication was carried out by an international Steel company and this required extensive co-ordination between the different trades throughout the life of the project. The use of RFI (Request For Information) ensured that all queries and answers were properly executed and documented.
